Or at least a juice cleanse may not be!! Have you ever tried one??
Have you ever tried a juice cleanse? Strictly juice for a few days or several days? Perhaps you can relate to my story!
I’ve done a Usana Reset cleanse before, I felt great and got results. It was a meal replacement with bars and extra veggies if I got hungry. So I figured no problem I can do this juice thing! In my journey for better health, I’d take this a step further. Juice Cleanse!
Jason Vale’s 7 lbs in 7 days! Was what I looked at… However once I looked at all the things I needed to purchase Spirulina, wheat grass and some friendly bacteria powder, not to mention all the fruits and veggies for the cleanse and a high powered blender and a juicer. ( Fortunately for me I have the blender and the juicer). I decided that it was too complicated and too long for me. If it’s too much like work, then I know I will resent all the work involved.
I checked out Jason Vale’s 5 lbs in 5 days. Now this one was much more doable, in my terms! The only thing I had to buy were a few fruits and veggies that I didn’t have or often use, so that was doable. No Spirulina, wheat grass or friendly bacteria! So I purchased the APP at $6.99 and I was off.
How many days to pump me up to do this?? Well, not enough!! I would suggest if you try one of these cleanses that you detox or withdraw from all caffeine, all sugars and likely anything that would be in the wheat family.. Then you won’t have the HUGE withdrawal symptoms that come with the cleanse!! BUT you may not get the best end result if you do that.. the 5 lbs in 5 days that is.. You will still get the cleansing of the body when you get rid of all that other stuff from your amazing temple (body). Your body really is an amazing machine!!
Now take into consideration that I have done a RAW food trial 15 months previous ( started out with a juice cleanse), so I had a little clue what I was up against. However as with the previous change in “diet” I didn’t prepare enough.
I didn’t withdraw from the caffeine and high glycemic foods! NOT the smartest thing if you want to feel decent through this. Well al least not for me!!
Day 1: The juices were really good. I felt tired, yawned most of the day. The lack of energy was kinda ridiculous. Dull headache started in the afternoon, and I did one 30 min sweating workout. Although I wasn’t hungry I did take advantage of the SOS hunger food, as I know how bad my headache would get if I got too hungry or my caffeine withdrawal got too intense!
Day 2: Juices were okay. The headache started on awaking, and I felt tired and horrible. I did my best to ward off the junk food terrorists and did survive!! I actually did 2 workouts that day. Surprisingly enough I felt great during the workouts!! Great!!! BUT soon after the workout ended the yucky feelings came back! It is recommended to sleep if need be, nap or whatever for yourself. Good thing I didn’t have to ‘go to work’. I was in bed that evening at 8:30pm. So tired!! So hungry, I did take advantage of the SOS hunger food for the day.
Day 3: I was expecting to feel better! I woke up and had a herbal tea, and it just got worse from there!! I stretched the times of the juices that day as I knew I would not be able to drink my evening juice at the time suggested.. I got in 2 workouts and felt great during the workouts, although afterwards the yucky feelings returned! I was beginning to wonder if I would last or if it was worth this pain and discomfort (withdrawal). I mean I was really only doing this for the 5 lbs and the curiosity to see if it works! I was not thinking that I needed to detox. I consider myself a really healthy eater (in my world they call me a health nut or a food Nazi!– although I am no saint when it comes to eating all the healthy foods). I was beginning to wonder, if I feel so terrible what would your ‘regular’ Joe do in this case, one who ate limited veggies and fruit, breads regularly and fast foods. (actually most people wouldn’t even think of trying something like this– well at least not in my world). I was perplexed!
Day 4: I awoke thinking… I feel pretty good! I had some water and a herbal tea ( which actually didn’t even taste good!!), and seriously it got bad. I had a headache still ( it was dull so thank goodness for that!! ) I had 3 hours to go before my first juice of the day, and a workout to boot, before that! I was hungry and I knew that if the headache was not ‘fed’ I’d have a raging throw up headache before too long. So I ate some organic blueberries. Organic because that is what they suggest on the cleanse and of course for me it is one of the Dirty Dozen. I got slight relief… I got my workout in, it was not intense as I would have liked, but I did it!!
I watched the clock for my next juice, it was soo hard, I was sooo hungry! I ate some more blueberries and some cucumber . My stomach was growling!! I watched all the videos for the day and caught up on a couple that I had missed the previous day.. the benefits and the knowledge.. SO much great information…
I had a mastermind call with my beloved “Wednesday Wonderful’s” group. I told them of my cleanse and they all suggested that I listen to my body and FEED it!!
My one “mentor” reminded me of what I needed to do the previous RAW cleanse I did…. The lightbulb went on!! maybe I should give my body some more food!! So I started to eat!! But not before I weighed myself.. After all losing 5 lbs in 5 days was my challenge!! To my surprise ( well maybe not really) I lost 7 lbs in 4 days!!
I felt like hell but I succeeded at what I set out to do! Anyway, I started to eat after I weighed myself, healthy choices of course… LIke veggies and hummus and more veggies and some cooked veggies and some of the veggie with sour cream and yogurt casserole that I made, with some cheese on top. I also had 1/2 of an organic ground beef pattie. for supper. Throughout the evening I kept eating more… fruits, veggies… until I felt like I had some energy!
The headache finally started to subside. I ‘d only had enough energy for one workout the fourth day. That’s what threw me the most, day 4 and I had less energy than on the first day! I really expected to feel great by day 4. I had to change it to work for me!
Day 5: I woke up and still weighed in at a 7 lb loss. So was it worth it? I still haven’t decided!! I think I’ll lose the next 7 lbs a little less juiced!!
I mean, with less juice and more veggies and more RAW choices and for me, protein (meat).
What have you tried that really put you to the test? Was it worth it?
PS. I have to tell you that I have never what I call “quit” before so for me this was a really tough decision to make… I really usually set myself up and do what I say I will (knowing it isn’t forever!)…. So I am patting myself on the back for being a ‘quitter’ but more so for not feeling guilty or beating myself up over the fact that I didn’t complete the full 5 days!!
