Is Your Range of Motion in Good Shape?

Do you consider yourself to have a good range of motion in your body? In the majority of  your limbs? Do some limbs lack the ability to go through the full range of motion that that body part “should” be capable of?

Do you think that aging is simply what happens to a person’s range of motion? Are there many parts to your body that lack the range of motion that might make movement easier, posture better and life more comfortable?

So, what’s your take on where you will be in 10 years? Have you given it any thought? Most of us don’t until it’s too late. Too late and we have no choice about paying attention. I encourage you to start, if you haven’t already, to pay more attention to your future in terms of your physical body. Do you want to go into your future knowing what’s happening for you or look back one day and ask what happened?

PS. If you haven’t already seen my post on how posture can be related to your lack of range of motion, check out my last post.

  1. Well, Holly,
You’ve caught me once again. Sitting cross-legged on the floor with your grandchildren is a goal to look forward to. Clasping my hands behind my back? Maybe not! But I get the point that you either use it or lose it. Exercise is a daily choice. If it is not factored into the equation, you’re the loser in the long run.

Why aren’t we neighbors? I’d love to be in your exercise classes! You are an ongoing inspiration!!

    Holly,
I agree with you, I want to sit on the floor and play with my grandkids! I have allowed myself to tighten up! It’s not too late! I can and I will stretch and exercise to have my complete range of motion! Thanks for the reminder!

Yeah Linda! It isn’t too late! Keep up the constant work! Do what you can! It all helps! It is amazing how much our range of motion deteriorates and I for one am doing what I can to keep it to a minimum; the deterioration that is!

Another great post. I am fairly flexible and can do the hands behind the shoulders and touch my whole hand on the ground with knees straight but I am finding spine range of motion is limited. You are nearly motivating me to get those yoga videos out again.
    Thanks
