How come “all of a sudden” I can’t bend over to tie my shoes, I have so much difficulty walking up the stairs without stopping, or I can’t pull my arm back enough to get on my jacket? How’d I get like this?
How did this happen?
It’s not that we wake up one day and it’s just changed… it takes time. BUT all of a sudden we notice and we can’t do something!!
I think over time we let little things happen and we don’t give it a lot of the thought. So little things happen along the way …. and [...] Continue Reading…
Does it?? I’ve been asked that a lot!! ”Does it ever get easier?”
And I am going to say no.. unless you stop pushing to get better. Yes, if you are only going through the motions.
To get your systems to improve you have to push them. It doesn’t have to be real intense but you have to push them.
So that would mean, if you are doing weight training, you have to choose to pick up heavier weights… If you want to breathe easier in a run or walk you have to push yourself to improve your cardiovascular system. Strolling along [...] Continue Reading…
Yes, everyone needs to do Yoga!! Absolutely Everyone!!
Now, that doesn’t mean that everyone needs to go over board ( as I call it ) and do really intense upside down poses and chanting and meditations and all that.
I’m talking the poses and postures that give you range of motion. Now Yoga isn’t just about stretching but I’ll get into that in another post some day, but I’m talking the physical part of stretching out.
When we exercise we use muscles and they get tighter after a work out. If we are strengthening the muscles they will tighten up… So, [...] Continue Reading…
Have you ever done a workout or exercise and you don’t like how it feels? It makes you work more than you’re used to?
Have you ever done a workout or an exercise and you push to a point where you pushed too far?
We often expect more out of our bodies than what we should be doing.. People come to classes and try to keep up with the “Jones’s. Even though they haven’t done exercise for some time they want to do what everyone else is doing. I’m sure you know people like this. I don’t know if that’s any [...] Continue Reading…
What about you? Are you messing around? Messing around with your health? Your life, your finances, your love life, your whatever it is that you want to make some positive changes with?
I know that I make choices that leave me with a bit of discontent and then I have to fix it, again! But I also know that that is okay. Heavens if I didn’t learn something from my mistakes and I did everything correctly how would I learn anything?
Another New Year is upon us and I am sure you have heard lots and lots about New Year’s Resolutions. [...] Continue Reading…
Are you looking in the rear view mirror? Is there a rear view mirror? Are you planning what YOU want in your life? What are you doing for you?
I wrote this post 3 years ago.. and it was brought back to my attention via a couple of wonderful ladies who I appreciate so much….. Thank you Leslie Denning and Jacqueline Gates!! I love this post and would love your feedback!!
How did I get so messed up?
Or at least a juice cleanse may not be!! Have you ever tried one??
I spent the better part of last week pushing myself through a juice cleanse, only to find out that it really was just as tough as the last one and I don’t know if Im ready for that type of cleanse!!
Have you ever tried a juice cleanse? Strictly juice for a few days or several days? Perhaps you can relate to my story!
I’ve done a Usana Reset cleanse before, I felt great and got results. It was a meal replacement with bars and extra veggies if [...] Continue Reading…
Yes, you can have some control over your “Vitality” as you age! In this series that I have written, you will see that there are some things that you must do for yourself if you want to slow down that ‘aging’ process!!
The 10 Biomarkers are:
1. You Muscle Mass
2. Your Strength
3. Your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR)
4. Your Body Fat Percentage
5. Your Aerobic Capacity
6. Your Body’s Blood – Sugar Tolerance
7. Your Cholesterol/HDL Ratio
8. Your Blood Pressure
9. Your Bone Density
10. Your Body’s Ability to Regulate Its Internal Temperature
The first 4 are all closely related. If you do something about your muscle mass [...] Continue Reading…
This concludes the 10 biomarkers for lengthening your health span. The last and final biomarker #10 is “your body’s ability to regulate its internal temperature”.
As we get older our internal body temperature is harder to regulate. Both heat and cold affect. ( I’m sure you have seen this in aging parents, family and friends.)
This is due to the metabolic rate. We sweat to cool our body and we shiver to heat our body.
What seems to mess with an older person’s system is:
- a reduced sense of thirst– they don’t realize they are thirsty.
- an older person’s body needs to [...] Continue Reading…
Isn’t it so comforting to know that there are ways to lengthen your health span? And many of them are not that complicated at all.
In this post Biomarker #9, which is You Bone Density
Although age relates to a decrease in mineral content of the bones– POOR dietary habits, hormonal changes in women after menopause, deficient calcium absorption and a SEDENTARY lifestyle play roles as well.
If you have been reading these past several posts I’m guessing by now you are realizing how important exercise is!!
Osteoporosis is NOT a necessary or normal component of aging.
Research has shown that there is a [...] Continue Reading…
